Heritage Week 2021

Join us in Killarney National Park for a Heritage Week with a difference

With the continuation of ongoing restrictions on social gatherings due to COVID-19, we are taking our Heritage Week events outdoors. We will have an open-air marquee with staff on hand to chat about some of the heritage projects we have been working on.

This year Heritage Week focus on getting as many people to enjoy heritage as possible – Heritage Newcomers, Heritage Sharing and Heritage for All Ages

ALL WEEK @ THE MARQUEE (Killarney House & Gardens)

A Revolutionary Tale of Two Families – The Brownes of Kenmare House and their link to France and the French Royal Family

(No booking required – Drop-In to Marquee)

Hanging on the wall of Kenmare House were the portraits of King Louis XVI and Queen Marie Antoinette. Why were they on display and what was the significance of the French Royal family to the Brownes of Killarney? Explore the exhibition here in the grounds of Killarney House and look into the lives of Katherine Browne and Comte de Durfort-Civrac and the links to the French Monarchy as well as the role Irish and Kerry people played in the events before and after the French Revolution.

Creating New Heritage

(No booking required – Drop-In to Marquee)

Creating New Heritage is the collaboration of young and old in sharing their experiences, stories and culture for all to enjoy now and to record for future generations. This project aims to gather a collection of personal thoughts, quotes, stories and experiences of Killarney National Park. Whether that be a few sentences on what the Park means to you, your favourite spot, animal, activity, walk, sound or even smell. It’s about sharing and creating memories.
