Enable Ireland Lockdown Exhibition at Killarney National Park Visitor Centre

Park Exhibition

During the very first lockdown of 2020 when strict travel restrictions were in place and everyone was advised to stay at home unless it was absolutely necessary to travel. Our regular in home and centre based support through Enable Ireland was restricted or put on hold during this time. This service was transformed into the introduction of a virtual service through the means of Microsoft teams. Through this service an option of joining in a weekly are class with a Kerry ETB tutor was made available to all service owners. Emma Browne (Kenmare), Orlaith Mangan (Killarney) and Seamus O’Sullivan (Listowel) all took part in this group. Every week tutor Breda Foran would ask us to take photographs of our local areas while adhering to the various travel restrictions which were in place at the time, and show these to each other virtually through Microsoft teams. As the weeks passed by our photograph collection grew and grew and even though we were all so far apart, taking the photographs kept us together and reminded us of how beautiful each of our localities really are. The idea of holding a photography exhibition was formed, to display and show you where our restricted adventures led us to.
